I’m Leon Moraes. He/him. A data professional, program evaluation specialist, and person who has rarely met a question that couldn’t lead to three more questions.

The people behind the numbers.

My focus is healthcare, research, and community initiatives. I care about understanding what is happening, what could be better, and what that means for the people living with the results.

Especially the people who don’t always get invited into the conversation. A useful analysis should help us see them more clearly, rather than turn their experiences into a footnote.

That’s the thread connecting my interests: using evidence to help create more equitable opportunities. There is plenty to learn along the way, which suits my inability to leave a rabbit hole unexplored.

Outside the spreadsheet.

Soccer has been part of my life for more than 20 years. In the gym, I’m still negotiating an identity crisis between powerlifting and bodybuilding. Boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu also feature. Apparently, sitting still wasn’t on the list.

Then there’s sci-fi, true crime, poetry, spoken word, budget travel, and the occasional first-person shooter. The reading list and the hobbies have a similar organizational system: enthusiastic accumulation.

Still figuring things out.

Curiosity is the common denominator, whether I’m thinking about community health or following a completely unrelated tangent. This little corner of the internet is a place to connect those interests, share what I’m learning, and leave room for a few rough edges.

A few receipts.

Some of the foundations behind the ongoing learning.
